Local Law Enforcement
Approximately fifty vehicles have been smeared with what seems to be blood from a person in the German town of Hanau in proximity to Frankfurt, according to law enforcement.
Automobiles, building surfaces and mailboxes were marked, occasionally with swastikas, they stated in a statement.
Officers say they were alerted during the night on Wednesday evening, when a resident noticed that a automobile in the Lamboy area of Hanau had been smeared with a red-colored liquid.
The substance had been drawn in the shape of a banned symbol, they stated.
Police then located many other smeared automobiles and building exteriors in the surrounding area.
Swastikas are banned in Germany under regulations banning the visible presentation of Nazi-era symbols.
Police say initial examinations show the liquid was probably blood from a person.
"There is still no lead as to its source; authorities are not yet informed of any physical harm in relation with the occurrence," they commented.
Local authorities announced they were attempting "to resolve the incident" and have asked to the residents for information.
An important representative said the incident rendered him speechless and had to be resolved rapidly.
"This incident affects the very heart of Hanau and revives the trauma of the far-right attack half a decade ago," he wrote on social media, referring to the murder of nine people by a gunman targeting residents of foreign heritage in February 2020.
