The player's counter-punching play style and regular reactions on the tennis court had prompted observers to wonder if his capacity to play at the elite level was finished.

However the 29-year-old has implemented adjustments in the last few weeks, striving to approach the net and compete positively, backed up by an better serve.

Medvedev fought back from a disadvantage in the opening set against the challenging Frenchman, winning four of the last five exchanges to take the lead.

Moutet defended 4 early chances in a close deciding set before the Russian won the break to fifteen to secure the win.

Suitably, he clinched the win with a shot at the net area, with his opponent failing to handle a volley after a lengthy match.
