'It's like they never miss a pass': The Swans' Ethan Galbraith continues clash with Manchester City.

Ethan Galbraith can't help but smile as he recalls the thrilling final moments of his team's epic comeback triumph against Nottingham Forest in the Carabao Cup. The encounter ended with Galbraith briefly donning a supporter's spectacles amid the post-goal scrum.

With the clock ticking into the 97th minute, Galbraith rattled the woodwork with a speculative strike from 25 yards, and Cameron Burgess quickly slammed home the deflection before sprinting toward the home end to revel in the moment, with supporters swarming the players.

Remarkable Recovery

This capped an extraordinary turnaround given the team had trailed 2-0 deep into the final 45 minutes. In the delirium, there was some unintended consequences. He shared, "There was a spectator sort of calling out and we were wondering: 'What's he on about here?' Then we saw the glasses. It was a light-hearted moment putting them on. We are on the pitch as players but we're individuals, too, so to have a laugh with the fans is always good."

Pep Guardiola Test

That win booked a upcoming match at home against Pep Guardiola's side on Wednesday, a club Galbraith pushed hard at the equivalent round of the FA Cup with Leyton Orient in February. He had a prime vantage point when the underdogs took the lead in spectacular fashion, with the attacker's volley from about 45 yards going in via the crossbar and the Stefan Ortega. It feels criminal that it was recorded as an own goal.

"You would have expected they would've awarded it to him for having a go from that distance," says Galbraith, who started in midfield before switching to right flank after they changed formation. That meant competing with the England international, with whom he traded tops, and the attacker was among the opposition who complimented the way his former team played positively.

Opponent's Class

"Fitness-wise they are outstanding but even the fundamentals and basic skills, they can just perform consistently," Galbraith says. "It appears that they always find their target and they know how to manage and neutralize a game. You can think you're doing well and then suddenly they will just thread a ball past your midfield without you even noticing. You have to be switched on at all times of the game. It requires a resilient mindset and concentration just to keep pace."

Welsh Transition

The Welsh side were keen on Galbraith in January and beat off competition to sign him in the summer in a seven-figure transfer. He made a name as a crowd pleaser across multiple campaigns at his former club and has swiftly replicated that in south Wales. At the London club he joined forces once more with the coach, who four years ago gave Galbraith his first extended run in senior football on loan at a League One side from Old Trafford. Then came a loan at League Two the Manchester club, before he departed his boyhood club.

Growth Journey

"I was likely a bit naive going into senior level. I think a lot of players would say youth team games is very different. Sometimes it seems the ball is moved without real physicality. There are limited hard challenges. Once you start playing first-team football you have to adjust fast."

Country Call-ups

He has demonstrated that development for both domestically and internationally, performing well for Northern Ireland, who are fighting to qualify for the international competition next summer via the knockout phase and for whom he has featured in the recent fixtures, including two matches fixtures against a football powerhouse. The ex-coach, Galbraith's previous international manager, offered the ultimate compliment, saying he was Northern Ireland's "midfield general" given how he controls possession and his knack for a game-changing assist.

Starting Out

This represents an incredible journey for the youngster from the local area in his hometown, just outside Belfast, who was raised observing his parent, the elder Galbraith, also a central player, play for Ballyclare Comrades.

Manchester United Experience

The player's single match for United came in the away trip in 2019, a continental tournament trip to Astana, where they competed on an artificial pitch and the arena covering was sealed owing to conditions of freezing cold. "That proved to be a lengthy journey and it was cold out there," he comments, chuckling. "The week before, myself and quite a few of the young lads trained together, so that aided our adjustment. Just to join the main group and make an appearance at the end was unbelievable."

Moving On

How hard was it to depart Manchester United, the club he joined from Linfield aged a teenager? "It was fairly simple, because I arrived at the moment where I realized I couldn't establish myself at first-team level. I'm extremely thankful for the years at the club but it became apparent where I thought I required a fresh start, join a smaller club and play professional soccer. Now I'm slowly progressing again."

Welsh Adaptation

It is the middle of the day at the team's practice facility but Galbraith has a commitment at the early evening: a road rules assessment, another move in the direction of getting on the road. Until recently to Sketty, the young professional was a frequent passenger in Swansea's dubbed player transport, a small coach driven by club employees, the drivers, which ferries players to and from practice and games.

"My companions include the Portuguese player, another squad member, an Ivorian player – Melker Widell used to be in it but has begun using his own car. It's nice to spend time with the guys but I'm hoping to be the subsequent individual to stop using the bus and behind the wheel. Franco is known for his humor; he's always up to all sorts."

Fan Interactions

While playing for his former club, Galbraith would travel alongside supporters on the Tube after beginning his trip at his base. "I tried|I attempted|My aim
